I feel like the luckiest person on the planet to have had the opportunity to not only work with Caitlin and Matt, but to have traveled to [now one of my favorite places on the planet] Arizona! If I end up moving out there, I think everyone can blame it on them ;-). Hands down, Ben and I would rate this as one of our top trips we have ever been on. I’m a little biased because I’ve been obsessed with the desert for years; in fact all of the photographers I follow are based in the west – which I’d like to think you can see in my style!
I’ve known Caitlin for several years and have been a huge fan of her work (she is the multi, mega-talented boss babe behind Pretty Weird Beauty, go check out her work and book her if you’re a bride!) ever since we first met at a styled shoot we worked on together in Alexandria, Virginia. After meeting Matt and seeing their amazing chemistry as a couple in person, I was even more excited to go to Arizona with them! Caitlin and Matt might be the most relaxed and laid back people I have ever met. I really felt like the most spoiled photographer on the planet.
Doing engagement photos of them the day before their elopement in the Superstition Mountains was the absolute perfect way to explore what we were in store for the very next day! This is definitely one of my favorite things about doing destination work: if schedules work out and we’re together for a while, let’s run around and shoot as much as we can!
We had been scoping out the Desert Botanical Garden for a few months but I had no idea how gorgeous it would be at sunset! This place is absolutely breathtaking at golden hour. The biggest surprise, though was how long after sunset we were able to shoot! The lighting evened out and we could easily capture the rich, blue, fading sky behind Catilin and Matt.
